How does it work?
The VI Peel is a self-neutralizing peel, so it cannot burn you. It is applied in the office, appears orange (think Donald Trump), and then you wash it off four hours later. The first and second days you look completely normal. On day three after application, your skin will begin to peel like you had a sunburn beginning around the nose and mouth. Your skin will continue to peel outward from the nose on days 4-5. Day 6 most peeling has completed, and on day 7 your skin will be fresh and glowing. Chemical peels remove the top layer of dead skin cells revealing healthy skin beneath, stimulate collagen formation, and lift pigment.
What Results Can I Expect?
With a single peel, you’ll see improvement in skin surface and brightness. If you want to lift areas of pigment or reduce acne, we recommend a series of up to 3 peels over 3 months for best results.
Does It Hurt?
Some people experience a temporary stinging or tingling sensation, but usually the entire process is painless.
What Is The Down Time?
You may go about normal life during the entire peel. If you prefer your peeling to occur during your time off, you should schedule your appointment 2 days before. Peeling can vary from mild to heavy, and it is difficult to anticipate what each individual will experience. You may apply makeup at any time, although in our experience it doesn’t sit very nicely.
What Are The Risks?
There are two important guidelines you should follow for the duration of the peel: stay away from heat and sun. If you prefer hot showers, simply wash your face in the sink in lukewarm water. If you’re baking a pie, have someone else pull it out of the oven (better yet, go on a cooking strike!). If you want to exercise, don’t get overheated or sweaty. You must wear SPF religiously during the peel, and stay out of the sun as much as possible. For this reason, we generally recommend doing peels in the non-summer months, especially if your main concern is pigment.
What Does It Cost?
We encourage you to come in for a free consultation to find out if chemical peels are right for you; the VI Peel is $320.
